The Research Master’s Program in Vision Science offers graduates from diverse relevant backgrounds the opportunity to immerse themselves in cutting-edge research, develop advanced theoretical and practical expertise, and take part in groundbreaking projects. Prof. Uri Polat
Prof. Uri Polat's laboratory focuses on understanding the mechanisms underlying normal vision as well as the clinical aspects of visual disorders. Research in the lab aims to improve visual function using a unique perceptual learning method developed by Prof. Polat, while also investigating the mechanisms that support the plasticity of the visual system. The laboratory welcomes students with backgrounds in optometry, biology, neuroscience, and the physical sciences.

Prof. Yossi Mandel
Prof. Yossi Mandel’s laboratory conducts groundbreaking research in the field of retinal restoration, focusing on artificial retina technologies and stem cell-based approaches. Students in the laboratory are exposed to cutting-edge methodologies in nanotechnology, stem cell research, brain–machine interfaces, and genetic engineering, with the goal of developing innovative technologies to restore vision for individuals with blindness. The laboratory welcomes students with backgrounds in life sciences, neuroscience, optometry, engineering, nanotechnology, and the physical sciences.

Prof. Yoram Bonneh
Prof. Yoram Bonneh's laboratory explores the neural mechanisms of vision and perception, eye movements, autism, and brain injury. Researchers develop innovative methods for analyzing involuntary micro-eye movements and brain activity to better understand individuals with limited communication abilities. The laboratory welcomes students from optometry, psychology, and biology.

Dr. Sharon Gilaie-Dotan
Dr. Sharon Gilaie-Dotan’s laboratory investigates higher-order visual functions—including perception and action, and their relationship to brain structure and function. Using behavioral measures, brain imaging techniques (MRI and fMRI), eye-tracking, and computational methods, the lab explores visual processing in both healthy and impaired vision. The laboratory welcomes students with backgrounds in optometry, vision science, computational biology, psychology, and medicine.

- How is the curriculum structured?
The Master’s degree program in Vision Sciences with a thesis is a two-year program comprising 24 academic credits.
The program is delivered in an in-person format and includes theoretical courses, seminars, and hands-on research experience.

- What practical experiences are included in the degree program?
In the Research Master’s Program in Vision Sciences, you will engage in active research in the School’s laboratories, based on your area of specialization and academic background.
The research experience includes:
- Developing a research proposal and writing a thesis under the guidance of a faculty member
- Collecting and analyzing data and preparing a scientific paper
- Using advanced research tools, including brain imaging, eye movement analysis, and computational methods
- Participating in departmental seminars and research discussions
- Collaborating with researchers from related fields, including life sciences, neuroscience, engineering, and psychology
The laboratories are open to students from a variety of academic backgrounds, subject to suitability and the selected research area.
- What are the admission requirements for the degree program?
- A bachelor’s degree in Optometry, Life Sciences, Neuroscience, Psychology, or Engineering
- A minimum undergraduate GPA of 85
- Applicants who do not hold a BSc degree or a degree in Optometry may be required to complete prerequisite courses
- Applicants with a different academic background or a lower GPA may contact the School for individual consideration
